We aspire to create the original product that was intended by the author of each herbal prescription that we supply. In almost all cases these formulas are from the Shang Han Lun and the Jin Gui Yao Lue written by Zhang Zhong Jing during the Han Dynasty.
In these texts Zhang Ji takes great care in describing in detail the various methods of administration for each formula used. It is our priority to adhere to these principles as it is imperative to the therapeutic actions of the various medicinals inside the prescriptions.
Many practices in modern times do not consider the various forms of administration in day to day clinical practice. Although this is largely due to logistical reasons, it is also due to the lack of practice in modern clinics. In ancient times the main text the Tang Ye Jing was mostly lost. This pivotal text we think explained the various methods of administration as well as the basis in theory as to why each principle is adopted in clinic.
At present most pills are made with either a granulate powder or with crude herb and then covered with a coating. The granulated pills have already gone through a decoction process which is contrary to the principles of pill administration. Therefore this is not at all ideal to be used. The crude herb forms are rare and often are over priced.
At Empirical Health we source all our crude herbs from a trusted supplier who is continually subject to adhere to Australian Standard. We also place a huge emphasis on Di Dao (original location) when selecting our herbs. This ensures that the correct herb is selected to treat the condition that it is intended to treat.
